Sad Day

Today Benazir Bhutto was murdered after a political meeting, only 2 months after she came back to Pakistan to take part in the upcoming election. She was killed by a suicide bomber, who also took more than 20 other lives. I was shocked, when I heard the news on the radio. - What a sad day for Pakistan, what a sad day for democracy and for the world.

My new toy !!!

I couldn´t help it. Still one week to Xmas and I unpacked my early present from my boss / our library. It was a rather Creative gift, which - after what I have heard - is actually needed in 2008, when we enter the next stages of 23 Things. The present is a Creative Zen V Plus audible player with a 2 GB memory, and this little black matchbox can contain 1000 songs (that is if they are only 64 kbps) and handle MP3, WMA, FM Radio and perhaps even tell you, when it´s time for a lunchbreak! - (read about all details in danish here or in english here) - so, I am of course mistaken. This is not a new toy, this is a work tool for at least one of 23 Things, but - it may come in handy, when we continue with the next 43 Things!

Now, is this an expensive gift? - well, I see many different prices for this little monster on the net, and I guess my boss negotiated for a discount, when he bought the whole stock as presents for his staff! - And of course other library managers should give their staff a small present for Xmas. Last year we got 3 presents: a book, a bottle of wine and - because of my age and fading memory - I can´t remember what the last one was. - You can´t drink this little black & green toy, but for a music lover it may still come in handy. Also for 1 or 2 serious library things!

Early Xmas present

Today my boss gave me, and the whole staff, an early Xmas present. What am I supposed to do, wait for 16 more days or unwrap this present? On monday some of my more curious colleagues have already unpacked their presents and I will know what it is. No more looking forward to Christmas and the presents under the tree, but that may be childish. Whenever you get something, you want to know what it is. Right away. - It´s an MP3 player, somebody said, and I never knew I needed a thing like that! - What if it´s an Ipod, which is a thing I feel I need even less. - Time may change your needs, so maybe an MP3 player is my main desire in 2008 (that is, if I get the Emmylou Harris box Songbird for Christmas). But I can surely wait untill December the 24th. There´s no hurry. Time will eventually catch up with me, while I will never catch up with time ...

Hazeldine

My favorite alt country and americana band is the female trio Hazeldine from New Mexico! - sadly, the girlz have gone their separate ways, so I was lucky to catch the last european concert date in Hamburg, Germany on June 4, 2001. They once performed at the Loreley Festival, that concert was on german TV, but so far no fans have shared the music on YouTube.

But luckily some nice people have made a small movie set to music by Hazeldine´s "Tarmac". Watch, listen, enjoy!

Flying ...

So, who are those fabulous furry freaky flying burrito brothers? - well, when Chris Hillman left The Byrds and joined forces with Gram Parsons, also for a short time a member of those Byrds, a unique band was formed: The Flying Burrito Brothers, the ultimate country-rock band, whose debut album The Gilded Palace Of Sin from 1969 still is a landmark in the music history. Just listen to the opening riffs of Christine´s Tune.

Read the bio on
Wikipedia and take a closer look at the Byrdwatcher. See the band all dressed up and in good company. By the way, the first two LPs by FFB are now available on one CD with bonus tracks, and you´ll notice, that one of the songs has inspired the name of my profile: Image Of Me, that´s me for sure.

Greek music favorites

Travellin´ to many greek islands over the past years has turned me into a greek music freak. Some of my colleagues think I´m crazy, when I tune in to a greek web radio station, but this deeply disturbed mind enjoys those mediterranean sounds!

My favorite artists are female singers like
Haris Alexiou and Eleftheria Arvanitaki. I am not even bragging, when I claim to have the biggest and most complete collection in Denmark of recorded works by these artists!

You need to be convinced of the quality of these singers? - well, check out two Haris Alexiou favorites:
Apopse Thelo Na Pio and To Tango Tis Nefelis. And two classic Eleftheria songs: Dinata, Dinata and Meno Ektos.
